The first concerts of the Second International “Baltic Jazz” Festival in 2007 will take place at the Kaliningrad State Philharmonic Society. It is housed in the Holy Family Church built by the architect F. Heitmann in Koenigsberg in 1907. In 1980 the church was reconstructed for a concert hall seating 400. It has excellent acoustic qualities and original interior decorations in Neo-Gothic style.

The Kaliningrad Philharmonic has graciously given its hall to the musicians of the joint Russian-Polish project “Jazz Travel” for rehearsals. Kaliningrad was one of the three cities representing Russia in the project opening the Seasons of Russian Culture in Poland in 2007. Jazz musicians of the two countries have started from Moscow to St.Petersburg, then via Kaliningrad to Gdansk, Warsaw and Cracow. The Polish and Russian jazz musicians taking part in the concert in Kaliningrad noted the sincere hospitality of the city residents.

The Kaliningrad Region is Russia’s westernmost region and the only resort area on the Baltic Sea, a European corner with a mild climate, beautiful countryside, excellent sand beaches, the unique “Kursh Spit” national park, modern health resorts with mud- and mineral water-treatment, the unfreezing sea and a wonderfully clean air.

The rich history of this beautiful corner of Central Europe goes down in ancient times, and there are many monuments of a great cultural value.

The Kaliningrad Region traditionally maintains versatile humanitarian ties with the countries of the European Union.
